UNDERNEATH THE BLOSSOM TREE

After a series of emotionally dysfunctional relationships, Vivian Fischer decided right after college to put falling in love on the back burner and dedicate her time to climbing the corporate ladder.  Her plan paid off in a big way when she became the youngest Senior Vice President of Marketing at one of the top advertising firms in Boston.  After years of never taking a vacation, working longer hours than her counterparts, and spearheading some of the firm’s most successful campaigns, at just thirty-two years old, Vivian was on the fast track to become Partner—or so she thought.

When her firm’s top two clients sever ties with the company, the Partners decided to “trim the fat” by laying off some of its higher paid executives.  To her shock—Vivian was one of them.  After all the years of dedication and loyalty to the firm, when it came right down to it—and when it mattered the most, the feelings were not reciprocated.          

Finding it difficult adjusting to not working for the first time in over a decade, Vivian’s friends suggest that to take her mind off things, she should finally take that trip to Europe she kept putting off year after year.  Despite some initial hesitation, she decides to go.  However, she is faced with the dilemma of getting there—as she is deathly afraid to fly on an airplane.   With the help of her best friend, Vivian finds a solution to her travel predicament: she will take a seven-day transatlantic voyage from New York to England on the Queen Mary 2 cruise liner.            

Having stocked up on books to read during the weeklong trip, Vivian was looking forward to some quiet time alone.  Once on board the ship, her journey doesn’t exactly go as planned.  During her first day, she meets an older—strikingly handsome—man named Samuel St. John.  After meeting up for dinner to celebrate the start of the voyage, the two become inseparable for the remainder of the trip.  Vivian—who for years never even made time for romance—is quickly swept up in the emotions she finds herself having for her mysterious new suitor who tantalizes more than just her mind.  As their time on the Queen Mary 2 begins to wind down, Vivian finds herself wondering if the feelings shared during their magical voyage will continue or was it nothing more than an extended one-night stand that will end once the captain drops the ship’s anchor.
